GWP-345 project for Ghost Yachts, – 105m/344ft LOA

Dubbed the L’Enfant Terrible of Yacht Design Alexander McDiarmid’s extraordinary concepts and projects draw attention and open discussion wherever they appear. The unveiling of the stunning GHOST 105-meter project, GWP-345, for Ghost Yachts which draws inspiration from the “engineering prowess” of the legendary Blue Riband record holder, DESTRIERO, is no exception to the rule.

GHOST 105 marks the second collaboration between McDiarmid, a British designer now based in the South of France, and Ghost Yachts. Last year, they introduced the impressive 80-meter superyacht project, G250. Like the G520, the new concept features a V-shaped, wave-piercing hull and a striking reverse bow, all on a grander scale.

McDiarmid’s inspiration came from the 67-meter DESTRIERO, which made history in 1992 by crossing from New York to the British Isles of Scilly in a record-breaking time of 58 hours, 34 minutes, and 50 seconds.

With no direct intention to replicate the DESTRIERO, the exercise is to somehow honour the engineering excellence, long-range capability, and sustainable speed of the original,” McDiarmid stated. “By building on the Ghost G250 platform, we’ve explored options for a more efficient high-speed propulsion solution while enhancing circularity and sustainability.

To be crafted from an aluminium hull and a sturdy carbon superstructure, this design prioritizes lightweight construction and low drag. The result? Enhanced fuel efficiency and faster cruising speeds.

HELIPORT DESIGN

Maritime Aviation, our industry-leading partner, is taking charge of an exciting project featuring a certified heliport on the foredeck. They provide expert guidance on all technical, regulatory, and equipment aspects related to shipboard heliports, hangarage, and helicopter refuelling systems. This initiative embraces industry best practices, utilizing the ACH 145—the premier helicopter designed for yachting—whenever possible.

Led by Bill Thiem & Harry Peralta, the boutique brokerage and new construction specialists Globe Regal Yachting, with over three decades in the industry, unveiled the Preliminary Specification package for our 100m+ new construction project to selected shipyards for the tendering process.

We are thrilled by the enthusiastic feedback from the evaluation teams and sales directors at select shipyards.

“Our compliments go out to the designers of this extraordinary project in which, we would be very keen to participate in the further development and construction on behalf of a new owner! Very special indeed!” – Sebastian DETHLEFS | PETERS WERFT GmbH

Introduction and Initial Technical Specification:

Thirty years ago, in the summer of 1992, the legendary Destriero crossed the Atlantic in record time securing the Blue Riband. This historic event and the legendary yacht that performed this impressive act form the basis for a groundbreaking concept which captures Destriero’s unbeaten record. We don’t intend to replicate such a record breaking yacht, but rather honour the engineering prowess, long range capability and sustainable high speed of the original. Based on an extrapolated version of the Ghost G250 platform, we looked into the possibilities for a more efficient high-speed propulsion solution combined with increased levels of circularity and sustainability.

The GWP-345:

“The GWP is the concept that we simply had to do. We explored the limits of what’s possible with today’s technology and construction methods without sacrificing comfort and practicality.” – Björn Moonen, Ghost Yachts, The Netherlands

A profile like no other:

Continuing our long collaboration with Ghost Yachts resulting in a waive piercer project giving a refined yet restrained, powerful overall exterior design with a very distinct and modern style shown in her profile. The project sets itself apart from the start with the hard chine V, wave piercing hull and reverse bow as used on the flagship Ghost Yachts G250, 80m project. The lightweight, low-drag aluminium hull with carbon fibre reinforced superstructure offers fuel efficiency and high top-speed while maintaining crisp handling and stability.

Design Thinking – Less, but better – Weniger, aber besser

A very original project that adheres to legendary Industrial Designer Dieter Rams’ ‘Ten Principles for Good Design’ giving a very distinct and modern style shown in her profile, ‘hauntingly’ beautiful yacht design.

The GWP-345 is the sum of all her parts created by talented individuals who are first and foremost passionate about yacht design. Design excellence starts from the completely rethought and very Owner adaptable General Arrangement/GA layout and advanced hull naval architecture all packaged and beautifully styled from stem to stern. The exterior styling is inspired by the military aesthetic of modern naval frigate and warship designs as seen in the superstructure, simplified into angled surfaces while emphasising the yachts striking yet balanced proportions.

The single level guest area:

The logic of the single level guest area sees the five/5 VIP guest cabins and one/1 Owners full beam suite all situated on the main deck. Twelve/12 guests in total are situated from midships to foredeck. The Owner and Guests enjoy easy access and circulation throughout the entire main deck. The central focus is the saloon with port and starboard, full height glazing, aft running the full length into the midships dining area.

Housed within part of this glazing, guests will be able to see the structure of the yacht and air intakes from the aft saloon area as the ventilation shafts descend into the Engine Room. Technical ‘art’ construction exposed.

The master dining area enjoys port and starboard balconies for the ultimate dining experience with a potential, different view, morning, noon and night.

A swimming pool aft on the maindeck is directly above the beach club, while the wellness area and spa, cinema and gym are located in the hull from aft to midships.

The sundeck with jacuzzi and bar is accessible by three stairways and is protected by a motorised/large, semi rigid sun canopy.

The sunken and hidden foredeck featuring a flush deck motorised canopy for a shaded exterior lounge with the two 10m tenders are situated within the foredeck, accessible by hidden knuckle crane.

The Heliport is also located on the foredeck.

We work closely with Jonathan Turner and his team at Maritime Aviation for best practice.
