The Pimpernel Rock National Park within Solitary Islands Marine Park and the Cod Grounds Marine Park, off the coast of Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour in New South Wales, are green zones. Fishing in these zones may result in a hefty fine.
The Australian Marine Parks (AMP) are dedicated to conserving unique habitats and the incredible creatures that call them home, including the eastern grey nurse shark, loggerhead turtle, and vibrant coral formations.
Parks Australia’s Marine Park Officers will be visiting local boat ramps in Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie over the Australia Day weekend to answer your questions and share information about protected marine zones. There will also be sea and air patrols to make sure no one is breaking the rules.
There are 3 primary types of zones in Australian Marine Parks:
- Green Zones: No-fishing zones. These areas are safe havens for marine life, allowing ecosystems to thrive.
- Yellow Zones: Fishing and diving are allowed, as long as the seafloor remains unharmed.
- Blue Zones: These flexible zones encourage sustainable fishing, supporting local communities while ensuring our oceans remain healthy.
