Lucky angler bags himself Mercury Avator powered prize

Brisbane angler Rodney Sinclair has taken his fishing adventures to the next level, scoring himself an incredible boat package – a BlueFin P395 powered by the cutting-edge Mercury Avator 7.5e.

Rodney’s name was drawn as the lucky winner after he competed in all five rounds of the Bass Electric Tour, earning five entries into the prize draw.

After trading in his kayak for the new boat and with the powerful Avator motor now fuelling his fishing adventures, the Brisbane local is already feeling the difference.

The Mercury Avator 7.5e allows Rodney to get to all his favourite fishing spots.

“It’s a game changer, it makes such a big difference whether it’s rigging the rod and lures, getting to my favourite fishing spots, it has just made the whole experience that much better,” Rodney said.

“One battery lasts me four hours, but I’ve got a twin battery set up which gives me a fair bit of range and allows me to go a lot heavier on the throttle because I know I’ve got a backup to get me home safely.

“It’s such an amazing prize, I cannot tell you how excited I was at the time when I heard my name announced as the winner.

“I spend every spare moment I have on the water now.”

With his sights set on next year’s Bass Electric Tournament, Rodney is confident that his recent upgrades will give him the competitive edge he’s looking for.

To maximise his time on the water and boost his boat’s performance, Rodney built up the transom and raised the hull, so his Avator motor sits higher in the water, reducing drag and improving its efficiency.

“It already performed really well, but now it’s even better, allowing me to hit speeds of up to 9.5 km/h,” he said.

“It’s not just the speed, I really appreciate how easy it is to use.

“Attaching it to the transom is simple, the motor is lightweight and easy to carry, plus the digital display is super clear and easy to read.”

The Avator is the first electric engine that Rodney has used, and he’s praised its performance when compared to a traditional combustion engine.

“I was honestly surprised by how much torque it has for an electric engine, it’s far more powerful than I expected,” Rodney said.

“It’s also so quiet, which is a huge bonus because where I fish at North Pine Dam, there’s a lot of wildlife and I love that I can move through the water without disturbing them.”
