A Portuguese startup established in 2021, Faroboats have created the first fully self-sustainable solution for small-craft leisure boating in the world, by designing and building a 1920’s-inspired, 5-meter wooden runabout, the Faro5, powered by an electric motor that gets fully charged in under 3 hours by its own custom-designed, floating Solar Charging Dock.
The Faro5 and Solar Charging Dock – the PowerDock® have garnered accolades at the Cannes, Monaco, and Dubai Yachting Shows in 2021 and 2022; the Faro5 was globally awarded Best Electric Boat under 8m by the Gustave Trouvé Awards in 2022, and the Powerdock® was featured in TIME Magazine’s list of the “200 Extraordinary Innovations Changing Our Lives” in 2023.
“As soon as we took a closer look at our international competitors, we realised we were the only builders of electric boats and their self-sustainable charging solutions, across the world, that has been completely self-funded thus far,” stated Nuno Frazão, CEO of Faroboats. “Our global ambitions, our plans for franchised manufacturing that will curtail environmental costs on shipping worldwide, and especially our larger, more powerful product line, will require further investment. For the first time in our short life, we are opening to outside investment”, he added.
The new product lines already designed by Faroboats include the Powerbays, (originally designed for their new 30-footer Faro312), a larger, modular, and more powerful version of their Powerdock® that will be able to charge any electric boat up to 10m, providing an instant and sustainable solution that solves the issue of the lack of nautical charging infrastructure for any electric boat owner, anywhere in the world.
