The Making Waves Foundation has announced its ambitious expansion plans for 2025, set to double its impact by introducing its programs into an additional two ports (Newcastle and Brisbane) across Australia. Currently serving 5,000 young people living with disabilities or experiencing disadvantage, the foundation aims to empower 10,000 participants next year through its transformative sailing initiatives.

This exciting announcement follows the foundation’s successful regatta held on Sydney Harbour on September 27, where community support and fundraising efforts enabled sponsorship for an additional 100 participants to be involved in their life-changing programs. The event highlighted the foundation’s commitment to inclusion, teamwork, and personal growth, aligning perfectly with its mission to empower young individuals facing challenges.
Gareth Hogan, General Manager of Making Waves Foundation, shared, “We are incredibly proud of the community support that makes our work possible. Remarkably, 80 cents out of every dollar we raise goes directly into our programs, ensuring that we can provide essential experiences and skills to young people who need it most. Our expansion into new ports will allow us to reach even more individuals and create lasting positive change.”

The Making Waves Foundation has dedicated itself to providing unique opportunities for young people at risk, helping them develop essential skills, build friendships, and enhance their confidence and self-esteem. Through programs that cater primarily to students from special needs schools and those with support units along the Eastern Seaboard, the foundation focuses on fostering inclusion, communication, and resilience.
The upcoming 2025 initiatives will build on the foundation’s successful history, including renowned events like the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, which not only showcase sailing but also serve as a platform for advocacy and empowerment.
