Local couple help power sea rescue on Brisbane coast

Boating is a favourite pastime of many Australians, and the Volunteer Marine Rescue organisation ensures that Aussies have someone to turn to for help on the water.

The 2023 National Drowning Report from Royal Life Saving Australia revealed that as many as 17% of drownings in Australia were attributed to boating, fishing and watercraft-related incidents.

Across Queensland, volunteer rescue crews respond to around 4,000 incidents every year and have kept people safe on Queensland’s oceans and waterways for more than 50 years.

The Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) unit at Victoria Point is dedicated to helping the local community when on the water and supporting the popular boating areas of Moreton Bay, between Cleveland and the Logan River, and across to North Stradbroke Island.

Battery World Capalaba Franchise Partners, Steve and Julie Minter, are passionate about powering the efforts of the Volunteer Marine Rescue at Victoria Point.

Battery World Capalaba Franchise Partners, Steve and Julie Minter, are passionate about powering the efforts of the Volunteer Marine Rescue at Victoria Point.

“Battery World Capalaba is proud to be sponsoring VMR Victoria Point and the important work that they do by providing them with batteries,” Mr Minter said.

“Marine safety is extremely important to us, and we are committed to keeping the community powered up and prepared all year long.

“Our marine batteries are ideal for keeping the boats running so that they can continue to help the local boating community as needed.

“It’s so important that the Brisbane Community rallies around these essential services which help keep us all safe,” Mr Minter said.

VMR Victoria Point relies on the generosity of the community to keep its fleet running.

Government funding allows them to maintain their boats and equipment, but it doesn’t cover running costs and equipment replacement.

They have two rescue vessels which they use to assist the Moreton Bay boating community.

The team works around the clock, making sure they’re available to respond quickly to first aid situations and stricken or endangered vessels.

The Minters are a great example of the difference that can be made in the community by local businesses.

Keeping the VMR Victoria Point Rescue prepped and ready for action means helping prevent boating-related incidents across the Moreton Bay area.
