Review of Lake Eildon waterway rules

Feedback is invited on proposed vessel operating and zoning rules at Lake Eildon.

Safe Transport Victoria (STV) is responsible for the determination of statewide vessel operating zones on and around waterways within Victoria.

Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) is the waterway manager for Lake Eildon and in consultation with STV is implementing the review of the current Schedule 90 of the Vessel Operating and Zoning Rules (VOZR) at the storage.

“Lake Eildon is one of the State’s most popular inland waterways and plays host to approximately 1.2 million visitors per year,” GMW recreation and land officer Chris Braden said.

“The on-water user groups at Lake Eildon are diverse.

“The lake is the only inland waterway in Victoria that allows houseboats. It is also one of the State’s most popular inland fishing destinations. The operating and zoning rules aim to safely manage the diverse needs of powered and non-powered craft and the large variety of recreational pursuits Lake Eildon supports.

“The VOZR review process provides GMW with the perfect opportunity to review the vessel operating rules at Lake Eildon, raise awareness of the State Rules and seek feedback from the local community and the variety of Lake Eildon user groups.”

GMW is currently inviting feedback on the proposed rule changes for Lake Eildon having recently hosted a series of information sessions, where members of the Lake Eildon boating community and recreational were able to ask questions and provide feedback on the operating rules.

Hard copies of the proposed changes are available at GMW Eildon Office, 19-20 High Street, Eildon.
