Australian Sailing welcomes the announcement by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Minister for Sport and Aged Care, Anika Wells, and the Australian Sports Commission that $283 million will be invested into high performance sport over the next two years.
With less than 30 days to go until the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympics Games, the news means that Australian Sailing can now confidently plan beyond Paris with the funding allowing for the commencement of the Australian Sailing LA 2028 Olympic and Paralympic cycle.
Australian Sailing CEO Ben Houston said the announcement is a positive move for the Australian sporting sector.
“We thank Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the Australian Sports Commission for providing further investment into Australian high-performance sport. It is a fantastic example of the united system we have now and the collaboration across the sector for the 2032+ High Performance Strategy.”
“This important funding will support our sailors and ensure that Australian Sailing can continue to work with the Australian Institute of Sport to create the best performance platform for our current and future Australian sailing champions.”
“We are delighted to also see an increase in Paralympic sport investment. We look forward to working with the Australian Sports Commission and Australian Institute of Sport to identify strategies for further collaboration across the sporting system,” he said.
