It is with much sadness that we report the passing of our industry friend, Bob Wonders.
Bob was a well-respected sporting and boating journalist with a history as a soldier, Bondi lifeguard, dedicated Whale Beach life saver and member of the boat crew competing in numerous carnivals. He was also a world record holder in powerboat racing.
Known to many within the industry, Bob wrote for numerous boating titles and industry journals.
His passion for boating and his adventurous spirit were closely matched by his love for Rugby, both League and Union.
Bob loved to tell a story, and many of his tales were linked to his brushes with fame.
His footballing days took a toll on his body in his later years, slowing him down considerably. He spent his final years in a nursing home, first in Robina on the Gold Coast, and most recently in Brisbane.
His brother Bruce spoke to him Monday night, and Bob was at peace and happy to talk football. He passed away peacefully in his sleep that night. Bob was 85.
In accordance with Bob’s wishes, the family will have a private cremation and will scatter his ashes at sea at a later date.
