The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Board confirmed it will conduct a search for AMSA’s next Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
AMSA CEO Mick Kinley recently informed the Board and staff that he will finish his role at the end of his current term.
AMSA Board Chair accepted Mr Kinley’s decision and confirmed a search for Mr Kinley’s successor will commence early in the new year.
“On behalf of the entire AMSA Board and staff, I want to thank Mr Kinley for his dedicated service,” AMSA’s Board Chair said.
“Under Mr Kinley’s decade-long leadership as CEO, Australia’s maritime industry and communities have benefited immensely from his strong, intelligent, and considerate stewardship.
“Throughout his 30-year career at AMSA, Mr Kinley has played a significant role in strengthening AMSA and Australia’s reputation as influential leaders across domestic, regional, and international maritime safety, environmental protection and response, seafarer wellbeing, and workforce diversity and inclusivity.
“More recently, Mr Kinley played a key role in Australia’s re-election to Category B of the International Maritime Organization Council for 2024-25.”
Under section 49 of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority Act 1990 (AMSA Act), a new CEO will be appointed by the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, the Hon Catherine King, on recommendation from the AMSA Board.
