E1, the world’s first all-electric raceboat championship, has announced the launch of the host city bidding process for Season 1 and beyond.
The UIM E1 World Championship was established to create an exciting, competitive racing platform through which to promote sustainable electric watercraft and reduce the environmental pressures being placed on the ocean, rivers, and lakes.
E1 is pioneering groundbreaking technologies for electric raceboats, which will see pilots flying above the water’s surface behind the wheel of the RaceBird boat using innovative hydrofoil technology.
The eight-race season will consist of up to 10 teams made up of a team owner and two pilots, one male and one female.
Tennis legend and 22-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal has recently been announced as a new E1 team owner. Nadal will also be supporting E1’s Blue Action Programme, which has been designed to create a positive impact in local coastal communities, through legacy projects aimed at restoring marine ecosystems.
E1 provides a unique platform for host cities to get involved in a new and innovative sporting event, that will not only see a potential global media reach of 180 million fans and drive economic impact but also provide fun and engaging experiences for attendees on the latest clean ‘blue tech’, exhibitions on marine regeneration, and fan activations through E1’s Acceleration Festival.
E1 has partnered with London-based agency The Sports Consultancy (TSC) to run the bidding process. Widely recognised as leaders in host city procurement for a range of major sports and entertainment properties, TSC will shortly be launching the bidding process by inviting cities to formally express their interest for the first season and beyond in Season 2 and 3.
The events will provide hosts with a repeat tourism driver and help build awareness on environmental issues and solutions. It will highlight technological advancements in marine restoration and preservation, and will provide opportunities for improved infrastructure locally.
Rodi Basso, Co-Founder & CEO of E1, said: “I’m pleased to be partnering with TSC to launch the host city bidding process for Season 1 and beyond. They have a strong track record in this field and we know that we can rely on their expertise, as well as plug into their global network to identify suitable host cities for the championship.
“The calendar for E1’s inaugural season is already taking shape with multiple races in the Middle East and Europe. Together with TSC, we’re looking forward to adding more iconic cities to the calendar and bring E1 to new audiences.”
