E1 set to anchor at new Italian race destination in 2025

The UIM E1 World Championship presented by PIF, the world’s first all-electric raceboat championship, has announced an exciting new race location in Italy.

The pioneering Championship will anchor in Lake Maggiore in Northern Italy from June 27 to 28. The destination is fittingly the birthplace of the hydrofoil technology that E1 uniquely combines with electric propulsion in its RaceBird powerboats.

Lake Maggiore has a rich history in hydrofoil development, starting with Italian inventor Enrico Forlanini’s early experiments in 1906, and the first commercial passenger hydrofoil service which launched in 1953.

This June will mark the latest chapter in this story of innovation as Rodi Basso, E1’s Italian co-founder and creator of the RaceBird, builds on Forlanini’s legacy with the introduction of the E1 Lago Maggiore GP.

Since its inception E1 has been making waves in Lombardy – each RaceBird can trace its origin to Lake Miaggiore where the futuristic raceboats are built. Crafted in large part by Italian suppliers, the championship is a source of pride for the region, showcasing its expertise, craftsmanship and technological innovation through the global sports series.

Alejandro Agag, Chairman and co-founder of E1 said “The E1 Lago Maggiore GP tells a fascinating story of history and innovation on water. We’re very excited to continue this narrative with our pioneering championship – bringing our electrifying brand of racing to a place of real natural beauty.”

The race will see nine teams, each with a male and female pilot, go foil-to-foil in a spectacle of electrifying racing as they vie to be crowned Champions of the Water. Championship leaders Team Rafa will be looking to extend their narrow lead, racing to usurp reigning champions Team Brady.

The Championship is backed by some of the biggest names on the planet across sport, entertainment and business including LeBron James, Rafael Nadal, and Will Smith and aims to accelerate the development of clean technology for the maritime industry to create a more sustainable future for the planet.

Rodi Basso, CEO & Co-founder of E1 “We feel a sense of deep connection with Lago Maggiore – a place entwined with the technical innovation of hydrofoil technology, and an early testing ground for the development of E1. ..we are proud to be driving economic growth and technical innovation.”
