Yamaha Introduces New Fully-Electric Propulsion HARMO® Outboards

Yamaha kicks off 2025 with new product offerings including an expansion of its HARMO line, available in single and twin configurations. Fully integrated with Helm Master® EX, the new HARMO provides comfortable, intuitive boating control that enables boaters of all skill levels to manoeuvre their boat with confidence. Yamaha will also release new cowling designs and colour options within its mid-range product line as well as new Steering Assist Tiller Handle F150 and F200 outboards in 2025.

“The expansion of HARMO allows boaters to enjoy quiet, yet palpable thrust in single or twin, fully-electric applications with industry upgrades in boater convenience and confidence. HARMO also represents a portion of the multi-technology approach to carbon neutrality in our product line,” said Ben Speciale, President, Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit. “In addition, the new cowling design for select gray midrange models and the expansion of our Matte Brown colour options, also within the midrange models, give customers more options to customise the look of their outboards to reflect the way they choose to boat. Finally, the new F150 and F200 Tiller Assisted models give boaters premium tiller steering with more horsepower an abundance of built-in features and benefits that come standard for more controlled manoeuvring and added ride comfort.”

HARMO: The Next Generation

With an impressive 9.9 horsepower gasoline-powered equivalent rating, Yamaha’s new HARMO Electric Outboard is offered in 20-inch and 25-inch shaft lengths. The multi-functional, intelligent design of Yamaha’s newest HARMO Electric Outboard features industry upgrades in both boater convenience and comfort.

Continuing a tradition of innovative technology, Yamaha incorporates a lithium-ion battery solution* for Yamaha’s HARMO Electric Outboard. For boater convenience, HARMO single and twin outboards have the option of using lithium-ion batteries or Yamaha-approved traditional batteries*. HARMO applications also benefit from added assurance with the Stage of Charge (SoC) battery status right on the gauge, allowing boaters to plan time on the water with confidence.

HARMO’s powerful rim-drive technology and mid-section Digital Electric Steering (DEC) generate immediate response to boater controls and vigorous thrust – perfect for smooth manoeuvring around the docks or slinking over a favourite fishing hole.

Boaters benefit from the practicality of a standard, conventional mounting bracket, and low-profile rigging tube, designed to ensure ease of mounting on a variety of transoms and pontoons.

Yamaha’s newest addition to the HARMO product line is the perfect match for a wide variety of boaters looking for peaceful cruising and stealthy angling. Expected availability is early Spring 2025.

Steering-Assisted Tiller Models

The new Steering Assist Tiller Handle F200 and F150 outboards incorporate the 2.8L electro-hydraulic steering system introduced in 2023. The new mechanical Steering Assist Tiller handle engages an electric steering sensor that triggers the outboard’s integrated electro-hydraulic steering system at or above 2000 RPM.

Boater preferred steering sensitivity can be set to relieve tiller arm tension for lighter, effortless steering to reduce arm strain during long runs. Steering sensitivity can also be set for increased tension creating tighter, traditional tiller arm feedback for more precision control during lower RPM and when navigating chop.

To promote comfort and convenience for captains of various physical sizes and to accommodate different boat load scenarios, the new Steering Assist Tiller handle can be adjusted up to 15 degrees port or starboard from center in 5-degree increments, whereas the height adjustment screw allows the tiller arm to be raised or lowered parallel to the boat deck or captain’s seat to modify according to captain seating preferences.

With the new Steering Assist Tiller Handle outboards, boaters reap the benefit of steering capability from end-to-end of the entire tiller arm, which means steering and quick shifting can be simultaneously accomplished from the shift lever or wherever the captain feels most comfortable placing their hand. The tiller arm can also be folded and locked vertically 90 degrees at its mounting base, allowing upright tiller arm steering during loading, and docking.

Available in Summer of 2025, Steering Assist Tiller Handle F200 and F150 models are equipped with a mechanical tiller arm that engages steering assist using the outboard engine’s integrated electro-hydraulic steering system.

New Styling and Added Colours for Select Midrange Outboards

Yamaha updates the cowling design on select midrange outboards and extends the Matte Brown colour into the F50, F60, and F70 outboard family to offer a less reflective, earth-toned finish in a broader range of horsepower options. Desired by waterfowl hunters and camouflaged boaters alike, the low sheen of Yamaha’s Matte Brown outboard provides better concealment, giving hunters the edge, while the tone and shade of the Matte Brown also make this colour an excellent base layer for tailored camouflaging without the need to sand or prime.

Yamaha refreshes the cowling design of the traditional Gray F50-F70 and the High Thrust T50-T60 model outboards to align with the sleek look of Yamaha’s larger Inline and V6 outboards. The newly styled F50-F70 and High Thrust cowlings feature an aerodynamic footprint, promoting efficient airflow over the top and around the sides of the powerhead. In addition, the cowling accents are now streamlined with fewer decals for a more uniform look, while the added, raised Yamaha tuning fork emblem on the back of the cowling brings a new level of sophistication to an industrious outboard.

Identified by its glossy white colour tone, Yamaha’s Pearl White colour option is now available in more outboard product lines, including the F90 and F115 models.

Release dates for Australia were not specified.
