Marine Rescue NSW’s Advanced Fleet with Raymarine Technology

Marine Rescue New South Wales (MRNSW) boasts a world-class fleet, ensuring safety and efficiency in their life-saving missions. The fleet includes more than 70 state-of-the-art rescue vessels which are equipped with advanced technology, including Raymarine’s navigation systems, radar, sonar, and FLIR thermal imaging cameras.

Fifteen years ago when Marine Rescue NSW was established, the amalgamation of the three predecessor organisations resulted in a number of challenges. With a large number of boats and volunteers, achieving uniformity across the fleet, ensuring effective training, and maintaining ease of use were critical issues. To address these challenges, MRNSW sought to standardise and was in search of a brand that could offer reliability, a comprehensive search and rescue (SAR) feature set, ease of use, and robust support. After careful consideration, Raymarine was chosen as the preferred supplier.

Fast forward to the present and the majority of the MRNSW fleet is now equipped with FLIR and Raymarine systems. Expertly fitted by Raymarine Service Dealer, Barrenjoey Marine Electrics (BME), this transformation has been marked by significant success. The boats benefit from thermal imaging, precise search patterns, and the Lighthouse operating system across all units, which ensures ease of use with its three modes; Systems on Day, Systems on Night, Systems Off.

Among the newest of these vessels is Lake Macquarie 31 (LM 31), an 8.5 metre Naiad that features a full suite of Raymarine navigation equipment and a FLIR M332 thermal camera. LM 31 has been delivered to Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie, the busiest of the 46 Marine Rescue NSW units across New South Wales.

Damien Weber, General Manager of Raymarine Australia: “Raymarine’s commitment to innovation and support has been pivotal in our successful partnership with MRNSW.” Echoing this sentiment, Alex Barrell, Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner: “The integration of Raymarine technology has revolutionised our operations. The advanced equipment and support from Raymarine have been crucial in enhancing our rescue capabilities and ensuring the safety of our volunteers and the boating community.”

The ongoing collaboration between Raymarine and Marine Rescue NSW has been a cornerstone of this success, ensuring that the products remain suitable and continue to meet the evolving needs of MRNSW.
