Online WHS Best Practice Course Launches on 9 Dec 2024
The two-hour online course is designed for newcomers to the marina industry, ensuring they understand the unique environment they will be working in and the risks they may be exposed to. The WHS Act requires employers to give their employees training and information regarding workplace risks and how to mitigate risk of injury. Employers should have all their staff undertake the course to give themselves comfort that everyone has the same baseline WHS knowledge.
A sample of the topic’s participants will learn about include:
- Working around boats: Recognising the risks posed by moving vessels including crush injuries and entrapment.
- Working Around Water: Understanding what hazards are present in aquatic settings and essential protocols to minimise risk of injuries.
- Rope Handling: Best practices for safe and efficient use of ropes in various scenarios.
- Confined Spaces: Recognising what confined spaces are, the hazards present and implementing safety measures in these areas.
- Electrical Safety: Understanding electrical risks and safe practices to mitigate them.
The new WHS online course offers engaging content, real-life scenarios, and equips new employees with the tools they need to develop a proactive approach to safety. This course does not replace critical on site training, but it does ensure a baseline of knowledge and will help foster a safety culture within the workplace, encouraging employees to take ownership of their well-being and that of their colleagues.
