GOST® (Global Ocean Security Technologies), a leader in marine security, tracking, monitoring and video surveillance systems, announced that its GOST Nav-Tracker 1.0 tracking system was vital in the successful recovery of a 46-foot Invincible power cat on November 2, 2024. The vessel was discovered missing, and the Nav-Tracker resulted in the authorities apprehending the thief in just over an hour.
At 7 a.m. Dale Wasdon, mechanic and captain of the fishing vessel Amazing Grace discovered it was missing from its slip in Tampa, Florida. He contacted the owner, Steve Williams, to see if he had taken it out. Once they understood what had happened, they realised the boat was unarmed and activated the Nav-Tracker remotely and tracked the vessel aground on a remote sandbar. After filing a police report, the authorities were able to make an arrest, finding the thief and his dog trying to escape on a raft behind the boat.
“We are so grateful to the team at GOST for being so responsive and helping get our boat back,” said Williams. “We will certainly add additional GOST security options once the vessel is up and running again.”
“We always appreciate helping our owners and authorities when a stolen boat incident occurs, particularly when direct action delivers a save,” said Danny Ashmore, Global Product Specialist, GOST. “While we wish the system was armed prior to theft, which we have found would have prevented the event entirely with the onboard strobes and alarm, this is a great recovery nonetheless.”
The GOST Nav-Tracker IDP supports a wide range of greatly enhanced speed, security and location-based machine-to-machine (M2M) services. With 100x higher messaging capability, lower power consumption, 99.99% reliability as mandated by the IMO, global coverage with the exception of the poles and two-way satellite service, the Nav-Tracker IDP offers customers the most reliable way to track their vessels from anywhere in the world. In addition, the new Nav-Tracker incorporates an accelerometer into the antenna, allowing users to set a reporting interval when the boat is moving over a certain speed. This reporting interval begins when the boat is in use, even if the geofence system is disarmed.
