The sailing community, particularly those involved in safety and the administration of offshore racing in NSW are saddened and mourning the loss of Tim Cox AM who passed away on Thursday, 4 April 2024, aged 77.
Cox was an officer in the Royal Australian Navy who dedicated decades of his life selflessly and tirelessly to supporting sailing at the CYCA, RSYS and with Yachting New South Wales and Australian Sailing.
A leader in the administration of offshore safety, Cox served the sport as a race director, on protest committees and incident review panels, chaired the NSW Special Regulations Sub-Committee, chaired the Sydney Hobart Race Committee for fifteen years, and was on the National Equipment Auditor’s Sub-Committee.
Cox was instrumental in setting up the National Equipment Auditing scheme used Australia wide, whilst at the same time he made himself available to support local boat owners and clubs in auditing fleets, and mentoring new local Equipment Auditors coming through the system. Many auditors in the greater Sydney area, and even around Australia, consider Cox a mentor and a friend.
Fair winds and following seas.
