The Royal Geelong Yacht Club has announced that Australian sailing personality Nic Douglass has signed on to continue as Ambassador and Master of Ceremonies for the 2024 for Festival of Sails 2024, and her company Adventures of a Sailor Girl will officially become the media partner of the event.
Festival of Sails Chairman Paul Buchholz said having Nic Douglass on board for a second-year running was a great way to build on the work done last year, and to see the event’s continued growth.
“It’s great to have Nic back as the ambassador for Festival of Sails 2024. She will be everything from our MC for daily presentations, to our racing commentator, and will document the race action and shoreside activities as part of our media team, as well as being the official media partner to showcase everything the event has to offer to local, national and international audiences,” he said.
“With consistent feedback from participants on the fantastic camaraderie that the Festival of Sails fosters, this event is as much about community and social connection as it is about sailing, and we know that the Sailor Girl is very much about helping sailors connect.”
Nic Douglass, the “Sailor Girl”, cut her teeth on yacht racing at the Festival of Sails, so loves to be involved with the event across a variety of roles.
“I sailed the Festival of Sails in 2006, 2007 and 2008,” she said.
“They were actually my first race weeks and yacht regattas as I came from a dinghy background. What really struck me back then and continues to do so, is the great atmosphere of the event. There is so much happening on the water, and on the shore, it is hard not to have a good time at the Festival of Sails!”
Early bird entries for the Festival of Sails close on Thursday 30 November 2023.
The 2024 Festival of Sails will be the 181st running of the largest keelboat sailing regatta in the Southern Hemisphere.
