As SailGP’s event 5 rolls into Cadiz, Zhik are excited to announce a new partnership with the Spain SailGP Team as the Official Technical Clothing Supplier for Season 4. Over half the SailGP fleet have now choosen Zhik’s innovative performance apparel for this high speed, high tech and high impact sailing circuit.
The partnership between Spain SailGP Team and Zhik comes on the back of Zhik’s support of 49er Olympic sailors Diego Botin and Florian Trittel, who are also part of the Spanish crew. The Australian-based clothing brand is renowed for pushing the boundaries in the design and technology of sailing apparel and fabrics. From its outset in in 2003, Zhik completely changed the design approach to dinghy wetsuits working closely with elite athletes. As the clothing range has expanded this strategy continues across all levels of the sport.
Diego Botin, Spain SailGP Team’s Driver, explains: “We are really excited to be able to partner with Zhik for SailGP Season 4. We have been working with and wearing Zhik on the 49er for a while now, so to be able to extend this to the whole of the Spain SailGP Team is great. We’ve worked closely with Zhik in the development of some new products and we really appreciate them supporting us and other top level athletes.”
Both SailGP and Zhik have a DNA that seeks to go beyond technological limits, and among its pillars are sustainability and innovation. In addition, the international impact and potential for growth and expansion of a high-performance league like SailGP is a great opportunity for Zhik to increase its reach in the Spanish region. Earlier this year Dismarina, Spain’s leading distributor of marine equipment, were appointed to represent Zhik and work with them to extend its customer base in the region.
Mat Belcher, Zhik CEO and triple Olympic medallist explains: “It is exciting to be able to expand our partnerships with some of the world’s best sailors and teams. As a company that is always looking to propel the sailing and water sports industry forward, we see this as a very strong partnership to ensure we can continue to evolve and innovate. The Spanish market is a key one for us and we are very excited to be partnering with this team to expand our presence in such a strong sailing nation.”
Johnny Rodgers, Zhik Global Sponsorship Manager adds: “This is a great progression for us in top-level sailing. Not only partnering with the Spain SailGP team as a whole, but also being able to continue support for Diego and Florian as they embark on their 49er campaign for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, striving for a gold medal.”
