CYC Members Alan and Tom Quick and the crew of Outlaw emerged winner of the 2023 Farr 40 Australian Championships hosted by Middle Harbour Yacht Club on 20/21 May 2023 and were awarded the much-coveted John Calvert-Jones Trophy.
Farr 40 sailing is a contest between evenly matched 40-foot racing boats, helmed by their skilled and competitive owners.
Three races were conducted on Sydney Harbour on the Saturday in bright sunshine and one on Sunday before the final two races were abandoned in strong breeze. The two-day Sprint Regatta took place in May this year, replacing the three-day event usually scheduled in March.
The Quicks finished with a three-point lead over Jeff Carter’s Edake from Middle Harbour Yacht Club while Joe de Kock’s Good Form from Newcastle Yacht Club secured the Amateur Division prize.
Under class rules, competitors can choose to compete under professional category which allows four Category 3 crew, or Corinthian, which allows two category 3 crew.
Congratulations to the Outlaws – Tom & Alan Quick – now the 2023 Australian Farr 40 Champions.
