Australia strategist Tash Bryant has unpacked the crucial moment of Season 3’s nail-biting Grand Final showdown in San Francisco in the first episode of Reaching the Apex.
Hosted by SailGP presenter Lisa Darmanin, Reaching the Apex asks the strategist from the winning team to break down the key moment of the Final race.
Reflecting on San Francisco’s three-boat, winner-takes-all Grand Final, Bryant highlighted the start as the ‘defining moment of the race’.
“We went in there knowing we wanted to be the leeward boat off the start, so we could get the inside on Mark One,” she explained.
After hooking Emirates GBR in the pre-start and hampering the Brits’ racing strategy, Bryant said she realized ‘we have this’.
Reflecting on her journey joining three-time defending champions Australia on the SailGP circuit, Bryant said: “It’s really nice to come into a team that’s been sailing together for so long and trying to find where I can fit in and where I can make a gain for the team.”
She added: “A few years ago I never thought I’d get this opportunity, I’ve been watching them on screen for so long, I’m so stoked to be here and I can’t wait to do more of it.”
Reaching the Apex is sponsored by financial services provider, Apex Group, which has teamed up with SailGP to drive equity for female progression in male dominated environments.
