The 2022 Marina Industries Association (MIA) Salary Survey was completed in April and a consolidated National Report along with individual State Reports were prepared. The MIA say that participants in the survey have now been provided with the relevant reports.
The survey was sent to 159 Australian Marinas from the MIA Membership. A total of 59 responses, (37%) were received nationally. Tasmania had the highest response rate with 86% of marinas responding, followed by Queensland at 42% and NSW at 40%.
Salary data by position title is detailed in the report and other survey highlights include;
- Employment arrangements for non-management staff are primarily individual employment agreements, with slightly less relying on an Award. Collective Agreements are only being used by 12% of marinas. For management staff, over 70% of marinas are using individual employment agreements.
- Just under 60% of staff are employed full time and 20% are engaged on a casual basis.
- 80% of marinas surveyed indicate they review salaries annually with the majority using performance or merit to justify salary adjustments.
- 24% of marinas did not increase salaries last year. 32% of marinas increased salaries by 1-3% and 31% by 3.1-5%. 13% of marinas increased salaries by more than 10% last year. The expectation to increase salaries in the coming 12 months is much higher.
- Marina dock staff are most likely to work on rotating rosters (as opposed to Monday to Friday) followed by Assistant Marina Managers.
Given the rapid pace of change that appears to be taking place in the employment market, the MIA will conduct the survey again in 2023 to provide an insight into the changing trends. Completion of the survey is all that is required to receive the results.
The MIA thanked all members who participated in the survey and hoped that they found the reports useful.
