Margate Marina’s improved deep-water access to fuel and pump-out dock is now completed.
Located just south of Hobart, Margate Marina has a spectacular setting on edge of the famed cruising waters of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel.
Following the release of the first stage of new floating pontoon berths in 2018, the successful redevelopment of Margate Marina continues. The latest project is the completion of major dredging works which enables better access for deep draft vessels approaching the fuel and pump-out pontoon. Depths on these approaches are now a minimum of two metres at low tide.
The dredging was undertaken by Tasmanian contractors over four months and involved the relocation of around 5,500 cubic metres of material. This project enables safer and easier access to our dual fuel and pump-out dock.
(The pump-out is the first outside the Derwent area and, thanks to partial funding from Marine and Safety Tasmania, is a free service during our office hours for all recreational vessels with compatible deck fittings.)
Other projects completed over recent years include;
- Expansion of the marina to 140 berths and extension of the attenuator/breakwater. The Marina will continue to expand to the approved 300 berth total.
- A new laundry for all our live-aboard customers. Located in the existing office building, the laundry has its own entrance and is a great convenience to berth customers living at the Marina.
- A new hot mix asphalt driveway entry. This extends from the members’ entry gate down to the parking area adjacent to the berth entry. Benefits include a more attractive and functional driveway and parking area.
- Expansion of our trailer storage area to provide an additional 50% more craft.
These improvements are important projects for the benefit of marina customers and their visitors. A Margate Marina spokesperson added that the marina is proud of its point of difference. “It’s the only marina in Tassie offering this unique combination of benefits; office open 7 days a week, 24-hour CCTV, members-only access after-hours, a dual fuel pontoon, free pump-out facilities, floating pontoon berths from 10m to 40m plus hardstand and trailer storage options.”
Demand for berths continues to strengthen given the Marina’s unique range of facilities and easy gateway access to the famous cruising waters of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel.
