In 1958, the Jeanneau shipyard built its first fibreglass hull. This new material, a petrochemical product, constituted an unprecedented technological breakthrough.
At that time, only three boats could be produced in a week. They were built in a very artisanal way from wooden preforms, from the keel to the ribs.
It was necessary to demonstrate to customers, with the first model, ” Sport Polyester,” that a fibreglass hull could deliver a performance equal to a wooden one.
Then, fibreglass became the construction material of choice, with the “Mirage” and the “Prélude.”
