The Australian Maritime Safety Authority AMSA) has put in place arrangements under Exemption 6 to provide the domestic commercial vessel industry with greater flexibility to temporarily operate while the number of life rafts being carried is below complement due to the life rafts being serviced, repaired or replaced.
These arrangements are set out in a new Division 4 and will save industry time and money by no longer having to apply to AMSA for an exemption.
The arrangements will also provide certainty and continuity for domestic commercial vessel owners and operators where a life raft may no longer be in service.
